It has been a busy time at our Work and Life Skills Centre, which is continuing to thrive, delivering a diverse range of client-led activities and engagement opportunities.
These sessions and community partnerships support skills development, enhance wellbeing and strengthen social inclusion.
In response to the interests and aspirations of attendees, new photography sessions were introduced, providing exciting opportunities for creativity and self-expression.
Attendees have also taken great pride in transforming the centre’s garden, working collaboratively to design and develop the outdoor space. Participation and enthusiasm have continued to grow each week, creating a welcoming environment that everyone can enjoy.
In June, the centre hosted a successful employment and volunteering day, offering workshops on CV writing, interview skills, and employment opportunities. These sessions helped attendees build confidence and develop practical skills to move closer to achieving their personal goals.
Through the monthly employment support sessions delivered by an Employment Specialist from St Mungo’s, 22 individuals attending the centre have successfully secured employment, helping them move towards greater financial independence and stability – a fantastic achievement that highlights the positive impact of the support available.
Creativity has continued to flourish with the commissioning of a unique mural, designed with contributions from attendees who participate in the centre’s Art Group under the guidance of artist Kev Waite. The completed artwork is now proudly displayed in the garden, celebrating the talent, collaboration, and creativity of those involved.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue expanding the opportunities available to attendees. From September, we will be hosting ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) lessons, providing additional support for those looking to develop their language skills and build confidence in everyday communication.
We are also delighted to be launching a new electric guitar building project with Pete Doyle, giving attendees the opportunity to construct and personalise their own electric guitars using specially purchased kits. This exciting hands-on project will encourage creativity, learning, and a sense of achievement.
