Join our egg-citing Pancake Race!

Our annual Pancake Race has crepe-d up on us and it’s now time to hatch a plan for Launchpad’s most egg-lectrifying event of the year!

So, wherever you work in Reading, put a hard-to-beat team of colleagues together, get egg-cercising, and prepare to batter it out against other local businesses for the adoration of Reading, flipping great prizes and the coveted frying pan trophy.

Held on Shrove Tuesday, 1 March 2022, on Broad Street from 12.30pm, the Pancake Race is your opportunity to don your best fancy dress and flip it out down the high street while being cheered on by crowds of spectators.

Your team will compete in a series of relay races in knock out heats, where you flip a pancake three times as you run. The winning teams are the first over the finish line, the race culminates in an egg-citing final – after which prizes for first, second and third place; best team spirit; best fancy dress; and the team who fundraises the most for Launchpad; are handed out.

The much-loved fundraising event has seen many local businesses compete and previous races have been filled with eggs-plosive moments, like in 2020 when the race ended with Reading FC raising concerns over Blandy & Blandy’s winning performance when the football team were pipped to the post in the final. Claiming the solicitors had not completed the required three pancake flips in the last relay – it was verified that Blandy & Blandy were indeed the victors after judges undertook a flip-by-flip review of video footage.

The registration fee for a team of four is £95 and all funds raised at the Pancake Race will help fund Launchpad’s vital services for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in Reading. This includes Launchpad’s supported housing, a free drop-in service for anyone in housing crisis and our work and life skills centre.

It’s simple – don’t crack up, just sign up! Visit our event webpage for more information, to secure your spot, and watch this space for more news on the eggs-ceptional prizes up for grabs.

If you’re not running in the Pancake Race but fancy spending your lunch break egging on local businesses in fancy dress, join us at the Broad Street Mall end of the high street – and don’t forget to bring cash or your bank card as we will be taking donations via our buckets and contactless machine!

See some of our heart flipping moments from last year’s race!
