Join our egg-citing event!

Wherever you work in Reading, we want you and your colleagues to batter it out against other local businesses at our egg-citing lunchtime event!

Join us and our event sponsors, B Radio, on Shrove Tuesday, 1 March 2022, for our annual Pancake Race – when you can don your best fancy dress and flip pancakes in relay races down Broad Street!

You’ll be egged on by cheering crowds of spectators as you compete for the coveted frying pan trophy and some flipping great prizes.

All funds raised at the Pancake Race will help fund Launchpad’s vital services for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home – which includes supported housing, a free drop-in service for anyone in housing crisis and our work and life skills centre.

What happens on the day?

Teams register at Broad Street Mall between 11.45am and 12.15pm, before joining the Pancake Race parade to the start line on Broad Street. They then take part in a series of relay races in knock-out heats, in which each team member has to flip a pancake three times as they run. The winning team are the first over the finish line.

The first race is at 12.30pm and the prize giving will take place immediately after the last race, at approximately 1.30pm.

Fancy dress

Whether you rock up as superheroes, space hoppers or suffragettes – (almost) anything goes at Launchpad’s Pancake Race when it comes to fancy dress. We’ve had traffic cones, chickens, Jamaican bobsleigh athletes, brides, barristers and morph suits – and everything in between!

After you sign up for the Pancake Race, our fundraising team will be in touch with instructions on how to set up a JustGiving page so your friends, family and colleagues can support you in your pancake flipping!

The triumphant team don’t just get the coveted frying pan trophy and the adoration of the people of Reading – they also each receive an extra special prize! And there are also prizes for second and third place, best team spirit, best fancy dress and the team who fundraises the most for Launchpad. Check out what you and your team could win:

First place – Afternoon tea for four at The Roseate

Second place – Burger, fries and unlimited soft drinks for four at Street Burger

Third place – 4 x £15 vouchers for Clas Ohlson

Most fundraised – Tapas and a cocktail for four at Revolucion de Cuba

Best team spirit – 4 x cocktails at Novotel, Reading

Best fancy dress – Breakfast for four at Crowne Plaza, Caversham Bridge

If you’re not running in the Pancake Race but fancy spending your lunch break watching local businesses in fancy dress battling it out with a frying pan – join us on Broad Street! We’ll be located at the Broad Street Mall end of the high street and the first race begins at 12.30pm.

Don’t forget to bring cash or your bank card as we will be taking donations via our buckets and contactless machine!

We would love your help to register teams on the day, bucket collect and monitor the participating team’s pancake flips! If you would like to get involved, please email for more details.

How do I sign up?

The registration fee for a team of four is £95. To secure your spot and batter it out with other businesses, simply email by Tuesday 15 February 2022 and provide your team mate’s names, and the name and address of your workplace.

Launchpad’s fundraising team will get in touch to confirm your entry, and arrange payment of your registration fees via BACS transfer, cheque or cash.

Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and if your company would like to enter more than one team for some real inter-business rivalry (!), let the fundraising team know.
