Summer celebration fun at our work and life skills centre

We were delighted to host a fantastic summer celebration at our Work and Life Skills Centre on June 16.

It was a wonderful open event, giving all Launchpad service users a great opportunity to explore everything we have to offer.

At the centre, we’re proud to offer a wide range of engaging and supportive activities, including Employment support, Digital & Financial advice, art, music lessons, cooking, gardening, health advice, mindfulness and relaxation sessions.

We have several laptops available at our internet cafe for anyone to use to check emails, apply for roles or check benefits.

Best of all, the Work and Life Skills Centre is open to all adults in the Reading Community.

Centre Manager Zoe said: “Earlier this year, I felt it would be a wonderful opportunity for the Work and Life Skills Centre to host a Summer Celebration— to enjoy live music, food, art and a chance to connect in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

“With the support of our wonderful volunteers, Art Tutor Kev Waite, and Guitar Tutor Peter Doyle, we began planning the event and shaping this vision into reality.

“Kate, our Support Officer also reached out to Reading College — who regularly support Launchpad — and we were delighted when they agreed to be involved.

“On the day, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities. There was delicious food available, along with live guitar and keyboard performances from our talented learners. Reading College kindly provided festival-style face painting, which was very popular. There was also an arts and crafts table where attendees could get creative and try something new.

“A special highlight of the event was the unveiling of a beautiful art mural, created by Kev Waite, which will now take pride of place in the centre courtyard.”

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive and everyone requested that we hold more events like this.
