Home Launchpad’s 2024 Pancake Race

Will your team be the one to lift 2024’s Pancake Race trophy?

Join us at our eggs-traordinary lunchtime event on Shrove Tuesday, 13 February 2024, to find out. Sign up and you’ll be competing against teams from companies and organisations from across Reading egged on by cheering crowds of spectators.

In 2023, 36 team of four represented businesses and organisations from across Reading and raced for the right to win our coveted trophy. After many very close races our 2023 winners were a team from the creative agency TMW.

Ready to race? Great!

How do I sign up?

The entry fee for the race is £125 for a team of 4.

All funds raised will help fund Launchpad’s vital services for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home. To secure your spot and batter it out with other businesses, please call the pancake hotline on 0118 950 7656 (option 5). Or email fundraising@launchpadreading.org.uk by ASAP!

We’ll need your team mate’s names, and the name and address of your workplace. Launchpad’s fundraising team will confirm your entry, and arrange payment of your registration fee.

Places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and if you would like to enter more than one team, please do contact us.

Fancy dress

Whether you rock up as dinosaurs, chickens, fast food or astronauts – (almost) anything goes at Launchpad’s Pancake Race when it comes to fancy dress. We’ve had clowns, bananas, the spice girls, crows, barristers and morph suits – and everything in between!

What happens on the day?

Teams register at Broad Street Mall between 11.45am and 12.15pm on the ground floor. At 12.15 All teams join a parade to the start line on Broad Street.

You will then take part in a series of relay races, with knock-out races leading to the grand finale. Pancakes must be flipped as you race! Poor flipping will lead to disqualification.

The first race is at 12.30pm and the prize giving will take place immediately after the last race, at approximately 1.30pm.

Fundraising

We would love you to help us by fundraising for the event and do check if your company offers match funding for charity events – every little bit really does help Launchpad to make a difference.

After you sign up for the Pancake Race, our fundraising team will be in touch with instructions on how to set up a JustGiving page so your friends, family and colleagues can support you in your pancake flipping!

Prizes

The triumphant team don’t just get the coveted frying pan trophy and the adoration of the people of Reading – they also each receive an extra special prize! There are also prizes for second and third place, best team spirit, best fancy dress and the team who fundraises the most for Launchpad. Watch this space for more details!

Don’t want to race, then come and watch!

If you’re not running in the Pancake Race but fancy spending your lunch break watching local businesses in fancy dress battling it out with a frying pan – join us on Broad Street! We’ll be located at the Broad Street Mall end of the high street. The first race begins at 12.30pm.

Don’t forget to bring cash or your bank card as we will be taking donations via our buckets and contactless machine!

Can you volunteer at the race?

We would love your help to register teams on the day, bucket collect and monitor the participating team’s pancake flips! If you would like to get involved, please email fundraising@launchpadreading.org.uk for more details.
