We were delighted to host a visit to our work and life skills centre with children from the English Martyrs Primary School in Reading.
A group known as the ‘Mini Vinnies’ visited Launchpad and are the youngest members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need.
They were given a tour of the centre and then we had a question-and-answer session whilst they did a craft activity.
One pupil, Seb, wanted to donate some beanie hats for the winter. He makes these hats himself on a loom at home and wanted them to be included in *SWEP packs or to be given to 135 clients.
He said he really wanted to give to those less fortunate than himself, and he really enjoys making the hats.
We think they’re wonderful Seb, well done! And they are already being used this week by attendees as the centre as the weather has turned frosty.
English Martyrs are just one of the local schools that have been involved in holding Big Sleep Outs.
Now is a great time for start planning what you could do to help people who are homeless, or are facing homelessness in 2026! Let’s work together to prevent homelessness.
*SWEP stands for the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol and gets activated when temperatures drop significantly.
