Dr Anna Ghelli announced as new Launchpad trustee

Launchpad is delighted to announce that Dr Anna Ghelli has been appointed as a trustee on the charity’s board of trustees. Anna brings her passion and experience in research, training and operational services, and will help oversee and develop Launchpad’s vital work and support more people in housing crisis.

Hailing from Italy, Anna started her working career in Reading as a researcher at the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading in 1992. She then spent several years working for the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, which provides operational services, like meteorological data and computing resources, for many meteorological weather services in Europe.

Anna is also a trustee of the Royal Meteorological Society, a professional and learned society for weather and climate, promoting meteorological science through publishing world-leading books and journals. She chairs the Society’s Scientific Publishing committee.

She is passionate about education, as it helps to build self-confidence and equips people with life-enhancing skills. She has led projects which build new training services and expand the reach of existing activities for weather practitioners in Europe and worldwide.

In addition to her volunteer work, she is also a specialist mentor at Graft Thames Valley, a charity that supports disadvantaged people.

Anna will be joining Sean Sutcliffe, chair of the board, and nine other trustees – who give Launchpad their time, expertise and guardianship to ensure we provide vital accommodation and effective support to vulnerable people in Reading.

In accepting the role, Anna said: “What attracted me to the work of Launchpad is the charity’s holistic approach to dealing with homelessness. I believe that prevention, immediate support for those who need it, and skills development are all needed to rebuild lives and self-confidence. Launchpad are doing this with the help of partners, fundraisers and a very committed team of staff – and I am thrilled to join the board of trustees at Launchpad to help further this work. I will strive to use my skills and experience to help Launchpad grow the current portfolio of services and make a difference to the life of those who are less fortunate. This help is needed now more than ever before in our community.”

Su Hamblyn, Launchpad’s CEO, said “Anna brings note-worthy expertise in education, training and operational services, as well as a passion for making a difference. Her skill set will be an asset to Launchpad’s board and our work in preventing homelessness and rebuilding lives. I am delighted she has been elected as a Launchpad trustee and look forward to working with her to further the vital work Launchpad does in Reading.”
