When did you join the charity and what is your career background?
I joined Launchpad in January 2023 on a temporary contract as a Supported Housing Officer, I started this role after completing my studies at the University of Reading where I did a Masters in Migration and Intercultural Studies. I was offered the opportunity to remain in this role permanently, and I have really enjoyed working for Launchpad.
Can you describe a typical day?
No day is the same in supported housing, we are busy supporting clients who are temporarily accommodated by Launchpad who are working towards independence. We support individuals with multiple needs – for example substance use, mental health needs, criminal justice involvement, physical health issues, and other intersectional needs.
All the team are working to support clients to move-on into independent accommodation, but while this is the ’end goal’ of support there are many smaller steps along the way – for example helping someone to open a bank account, supporting someone to engage with mental health support, or supporting a client to complete a PIP application.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people I work with, I work in a great team of people who are very supportive, knowledgeable, and hard working. It is great working alongside people who really care about what they do. It is also great to see the role that our work has in supporting people to make positive changes and being able to celebrate these positive moments with our clients.
What are the challenges you face in your role?
One of the challenges we face in this role is struggling to find affordable housing for clients who are ready to move-on and manage their own tenancy.
How do you spend your spare time?
I enjoy keeping active in my spare time – I also enjoy travelling when I can to experience different places, cultures and foods!
