Football in Berkshire held its first ever 5-aside football tournament in aid of Launchpad on July 27 featuring businesses from across Reading and the Thames Valley.
Kicking off just five hours before the victorious Lionesses, the tournament was a great success with PwC coming away as undefeated champions and everyone being home in time (or in the clubhouse) to watch the England Women’s team defeat Spain.
Held at Reading City Football Club, the competition featured sponsors, Theale-based PLAION, PwC, KPMG, Siren Craft Brew, Jaguar Espresso Systems, Launchpad and a Football in Berkshire side in a league format playing each other once each over six games.
PwC won the trophy with four wins and two draws while PLAION top-scored with 16 goals. Every team posted a win during the competition which was played in a great spirit.
Tom Canning, who organised the event, said: “A massive thank you to PLAION UK, our tournament sponsor who made the whole thing possible, and of course, Launchpad our charity partner.
“Finally a MASSIVE thank you to the team and staff Reading City FC for hosting us.”
Craig McNicol of CEO Plaion Partners, said: “Community means a lot in gaming, often linked to large gaming brands and the community of fans that follow them. But what about the local community, and being a fan of that as well?
“It was with that in mind that we were proud to support the local football tournament and help raise necessary funds for those in the community that need “fans” or better said friends more than most.”
Fiona Keyte, fundraising manager at Launchpad, who also played in the team, said: “What an incredible day at our first ever charity football tournament!
“The atmosphere was brilliant, the matches were full of energy and good spirit, and we had so much fun from start to finish. We’re thrilled that this tournament has raised around £2,000 for Launchpad.
“A huge thank you to all the amazing teams who took part, to Reading City FC for so generously hosting us, and especially to Tom Canning for pulling the whole event together so brilliantly. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
