Meet Maria, one of Launchpad’s charity ambassadors
What brought you to Launchpad?
I interviewed Kirsti Wilson (head of fundraising and marketing) for my local podcast and she spoke about the many ways in which people can help Launchpad. One of them was to act as a charity ambassador and go to speak at local schools, businesses, and groups about Launchpad, which really appealed to me.
What is your role with Launchpad?
I am a charity ambassador, I go into local schools, businesses, and groups to speak with them about Launchpad.
What do you enjoy about volunteering with us?
The team is lovely and so supportive. It’s also great to be part of a group working together to make a positive difference in our local community.
Do you have a day job and how does this fit in with your volunteering?
I have a part-time job and my own business, too. My business focuses on audience development. We normally get lots of notice to do talks, so it’s easy to add them into my diary and then work around them.
Can you tell us about a recent volunteering experience?
I went to speak to sixth form students at a local school and do a workshop. I did this with a fellow volunteer. It was great for the students to do their own research on homelessness and share their thoughts and ideas. I think sessions that are a mix of talking and interactive activities are a great balance.
What would you say to anyone thinking about volunteering?
I would say do it! You learn a lot, develop skills, and it feels good to get involved, especially in a community group where you can see the difference that you’re making.
