Training is going well for first time marathon runner Julia Weber who is taking part in this year’s London Marathon and raising funds for Launchpad.
“I’m thrilled to be running for Launchpad and cannot wait to complete my first marathon in the nation’s capital,” said Julia, who works for a finance company in London.
“It’s going to be thrilling!”
Julia successfully applied for the place Launchpad was offering in the marathon and aims to raise £2,000.
“My partner ran the London marathon last year and it really inspired me to apply myself. I ran a half marathon in Paris last year which was incredible and after that I put my energy into finding a place in the London Marathon.
“I was on the internet looking for a charity place to support a homeless or community-based organisation and came across Launchpad, which seemed like a perfect fit.”
Born and raised in Connecticut, USA, Julia went to University in New Orleans where she was active in supporting various local shelters set up after the hurricanes in the area which left many people displaced.
She saw the big difference these made to people in the community, which led her to want to support a smaller local charity.
“I think Launchpad does an amazing job in Reading and it was great to meet some of your team and see first hand the work you do in the community.”
Julia’s goal is to complete the marathon without walking or stopping and to hit her fundraising target … but she is also secretly hoping her time will be just over four hours.
She is now stepping up her training after completing a half marathon run at the start of February.
“I am looking to make London my long-term home so running the marathon here will really help me feel part of this great city – and running for such a great cause is so inspiring – I cannot wait!”
