What is your career background?
I have quite a varied background in terms of career roles, but the one common factor has always been that all the organisations I have worked for have been centred around helping people!
One of my first roles was as a Support Worker for adults with autism – I did this for three years before moving into more office-based roles in the NHS. Most recently, before joining Launchpad, I worked as an Office Manager for a charity in Lower Earley called Autism at Kingwood which set me up for this current role. I have always wanted to be part of an organisation that is driven by making positive change – I do not see that changing.
What prompted your move to Launchpad?
Like many of us, I always find it hard to walk by someone on the streets, but homelessness is also an issue that is very close to home for me. I learnt, when I was growing up, that my uncle had experienced homelessness in Reading, and that he had been supported by homelessness organisations. So when this position came up at Launchpad Reading, it sounded brilliant and it also felt like my way of giving back! I think my Nan would be very proud of that fact.
What does a typical day look like?
I would say that there is no typical day for me, although I have daily tasks that I complete such as actioning the IT and Enquiries inboxes, monitoring the IT Support inbox and handling incoming and outgoing post. Every day is different because it is guided by what kind of support our staff need from me on any given day.
It is a good thing that I have a strong memory, and am calm and quick thinking under pressure because I sometimes have to be prepared to push my daily to do list to the side while I prioritise any urgent enquiries that come through.
What is your favourite part about your job?
I love that I work across all teams, and am in and out of different offices every day as it has enabled me to get to know different staff really quickly. One of the things that I also look forward to is setting up all the new starters as I am usually one of the first people that they meet! I am a people person so the conversations and social aspect of what I do means a lot to me.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Eat, sleep, read is my mantra! I love bookshops and I love reading. I am currently reading Eve of Man by Giovanna and Tom Fletcher. I am also a massive foodie so I love frequenting new restaurants, and pre-covid times, I was a big festival-goer and city break girl!
Being a proud bunny mum to Lola and Willow also takes up a great deal of my free time – photos provided (obviously).
